Mural honoring famed mountain lion P-22 unveiled in West Hollywood A new mural honoring the famed mountain lion P-22 was unveiled in West Hollywood on Friday night.The mural, called “Keep LA WILD,” features the majestic mountain lion with a monarch butterfly perched on his nose.The new piece marks artist Corie Mattie’s third mural in collaboration with The National Wildlife Federation.P-22, the beloved mountain lion who roamed the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles for over a decade, was humanely euthanized in Dec. 2022 after being struck by a car near Griffith Park.The 12-year-old died of multiple severe injuries and chronic conditions that impaired his ability to function in the wild, officials said. San Jose flooring company owner sentenced for shorting workers $1 million in overtime wages SAN JOSE — The owner of a San Jose flooring company has been sentenced to four months in jail — and ordered to pay over $580,000 in restitution — after failing to pay his employees $1 million in overtime wages.An investigation showed the flooring company’s owner, 35-year-old Martin Helda, had shorted his employees to avoid paying $140,000 in insurance premiums, according to a statement released by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday.“Whatever you think you might be saving in the short term will cost you a lot more than money in the long term. Valley fever risk rises after wet winter, officials warn (BCN) -- Californians this summer and fall may face an increased risk of Valley fever, a fungal infection that can cause respiratory symptoms like coughing and fatigue, according to the California Department of Public Health. A recent study from University of California, Berkeley and the CDPH found that the fungus that causes Valley fever can become less active during drought, and more active when rain returns. It usually affects the lungs and can cause prolonged respiratory symptoms including cough, fever, chest pain and fatigue. Florida woman sentenced for girlfriend’s 2021 BW Parkway death A Florida woman has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for the death of her girlfriend, who police found dead on the side of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in November 2021.Janice Martina Mason, 30, of Melbourne, Florida, was convicted in May of this year for the 2021 voluntary manslaughter of Sharisse Denise Carr, then 26.A release stated that “in the heat of passion Mason purposefully drove into the victim and then left her on the highway to die.”On Nov. 24, 2021, police responded to a report of a body on the side of the BW Parkway northbound near Route 197.
