NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. Open quarterfinal between Madison Keys and Marketa Vondrousova was delayed for about eight minutes in the first game Wednesday night when a spectator needed medical attention in the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium.Keys was serving at deuce when action was halted. The chair umpire announced to the crowd that first-aid responders had been called. Tournament referee Jake Garner went out to check on the person, who was in the lower-level seats.During the delay, Keys brought two fresh towels and a bottle of water to where the spectator was.Eventually, the person was carried out and action resumed.The temperature approached 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) on Wednesday afternoon in Flushing Meadows.Vondrousova won Wimbledon in July. (KDVR) — Glendale City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to ban pickleball on the tennis courts at Infinity Park.The new ordinance prohibits people from bringing pickleball nets to the tennis courts, drawing lines or shoveling snow, which hurts the paint. A 34-year-old man is accused of stealing an MBTA Ride van with a passenger still inside, driving down Interstate 93 from Woburn to Boston before slamming into several vehicles in the O’Neill Tunnel on Wednesday afternoon.The suspect eventually got out of the MBTA vehicle and fled into the Bostonian Hotel, according to police who swarmed the hotel near Faneuil Hall and found him hiding in a function room.The man, who was not immediately identified by police, was arrested and transported to MBTA Transit Police headquarters for booking.The incident started at around 3:30 p.m. when an MBTA Ride driver parked the vehicle near 2 Elm St., in Woburn.
